Admission Requirements
Five credit level passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at not more than 2 sittings.
MSc Programme
MBBS Degree: Doctor of Optometry (OD) or its equivalent; BSc (Nursing) or BNSc plus
2 years working experience in eye care; BSc (Nursing) or BNSc plus Diploma in
Ophthalmic Nursing. The Nursing degree should be with an FCGPA of not less than 2.5
on a 5-point scale from Nnamdi Azikiwe University or any other University recognized by
the Senate.
The postgraduate programme for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in ophthalmology visual sciences and medical sciences aims at providing advanced training that will enable the candidate make original contribution to ophthalmology, visual sciences, neurosciences and eye health through research. The regular programme will endure for a minimum of 6 - 9 semesters; the executive programme will endure for 2 - 3 semesters. The candidate will be required to specialize in any of the following sections of ophthalmology: vitreo-retina, neuro-ophthalmology, cornea, anterior segment and ocular adnexa, uveitis/ocular immunology, oculoplastics, orbit and lacrimal, ophthalmic optics, lasers and ocular imaging, glaucoma, and anterior segment, public health ophthalmology, ophthalmic pathology, ocular oncology, low vision, experimental ophthalmology, paediatric ophthalmology and neurosciences in relation to ophthalmology.
