Admission Requirements
MASTER OF SCIENCE PROGRAMME (MSc.)
Admission into the M.Sc. in the Surgical Sciences will be open to the following:
1. M.Sc. Programme Entry Requirements
a) Candidates with Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, MBBCh) / Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degrees.
b) Primary fellowship in any aspect of surgery will be an added advantage.
DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY PROGRAMME (PhD)
There PhD. programme shall have three (3) components:
1. MPhil/PhD. Programme
MPhil/PhD programme entry requirements
(a) Candidates with Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBCh;MBBS)/ Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degrees. AND
(b) Master of Science (MSc) with a 3.00 ≥ FCGPA ≤ 3.50 in a relevant discipline of clinical science from a recognized University.
(c) Primary fellowship in any aspect of surgery.
(d) Evidence of enrolment into residency training in surgery in a recognized health institution will be considered as an advantage
2. Doctorate programme
Doctorate programme entry requirement.
(a). Candidates with Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBCh;MBBS)/ Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degrees. AND
(b).Master of Science (MSC) with an FCGPA ≥ 3.50 in a relevant discipline of clinical science from a recognized University.
© Candidates with Part 1 fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria(NPMCN) or its equivalent
(NPMCN) or its equivalent
3. Executive PhD by research in Surgical Science.
Eligibility for admission
Academic staff of the University (NAU) who is a Professor or Reader with Full Medical Fellowship (Part 11).
Such a candidate shall have:
(a) Publications – A minimum of five (5) scientific publications in the respective area of specialization, with clearly identifiable or defined theme and focus, published in an indexed journal, visible online obtained within the preceding five years from the date of application. These must have been published in journals with a minimum impact factor of 1.0. These papers shall be work done in Nigeria and
(b) Google scholar citation – the minimum acceptable score should be 300
(c) Authorship – the candidate must be the first or corresponding author in at least two of the publications in (a) above.
